Salem's Lot (Unabridged) - Stephen King

Salem's Lot is not only Stephen King's favorite book, but his best. Dracula brought to small-town America (New England), with a touch of I Am Legend (scientific analysis of the vampire), The Haunting of Hill House (haunted house as repository of evil as an enduring phenomena), and comic book fangoria. The characters are memorable and likable, the physical setting well established, and the pacing is nearly perfect (slow, almost too slow at the beginning, but with enough hooks dangled to keep you going to about the 1/10th mark, and then it takes off).
